Compressor Jones

- As a follow up to last night’s post, it turns out Built to Spill is playing at 930 in mid October. Hmmmm.
- I’ve got a hankering to buy a compressor pedal. Two makes have come to my attention: Wampler and Joe Meek. Here’s a video of the Wampler in action:

What is your insperation for a stompbox compressor? I always loved that Lowell George / Ry Cooder compression that went with their killer slide. That was the famous MXR Dyna Comp. Of course, Mr. Bethel always worked wonders with a plain old Boss unit. I have a very old and fancy t.c. Electronic, but it’s so subtle that you don’t even know if it’s on.
Yeah, I think I may have awakened a gear jones during my bachelor stint. I’m a little nervous about it – my suspicion is that gear is sort of like eating peanuts or tattoos – you can’t do just one.
Honestly, two months ago, I don’t think I could have told you what a compressor was. Then I watched a YouTube vid with a guy playing with one, and it was like “oh, so that’s how you get that sound.” Now I’m all jonesing for it.
Plus the Trey thing was funny. Did you see that link? Trey’s guitar tech, or maybe it was his songwriting partner, blogged that he had lost his compressor pedal (which was a big part of his 90s sound). So some of his fans went out and bought him one.
