A Case of Ice and Snow

According to Weather Channel, it could all turn to freezing rain shortly, which would be a bummer.
Snow is supposed to return on Tuesday, the night of Trey at 930 Club. A Galactic gig was canceled at 930 tonight. I hope Trey gig doesn’t get hosed too.
In the spirit of all this, I tried to dig up Trey Anastasio’s “A Case of Ice and Snow” on Grooveshark. No dice. I did find this undated live Oysterhead recording, where Les Claypool pulls out references to “Jerry was a Race Car Driver” and “Reba.”
PRS Guitarbust
Posted: January 27, 2010 Filed under: Technology | Tags: bullshit, Les Claypool, PRS Guitarbud 3 Comments »PRS Guitarbud is advertised as “the guitarist’s interface for iPhone.” Over at the PRS Cables blog, there’s a post up that says this: “The best part is…. I am playing LOUD… and my wife hears nothing!”
Well, I got excited about all that, but unfortunately the cable’s not really working for me. Something is coming through it, because I can hear a sort of spotty signal in the headphones when I hook it up with the PRS JamAmp app. But that spotty signal isn’t registering on the Voice Memos indicator, as it’s supposed to. I don’t know what’s up. Either I haven’t got it hooked up right, or the cable’s junk.
As for the PRS app, the effects seem pretty weak to me, but again, maybe I’m doing something wrong. I’ll keep tinkering. So far, it’s not looking worth the 40 clams for cable and app combo.
I should have spent that money on Les Claypool wine, which I learned about today via Jambase.
Transcending Weird

Two thoughts.
One, I really like that tune, although I’m not familiar with it. I suspect some of those lyrics aren’t network-TV friendly.
Also, tag surfing, I noticed a couple of comments about Les Claypool along the lines of “boy, is he weird.” I wouldn’t call Les Claypool weird. I think he transcends weird.
Here’s some bass microblogging. Hope it develops into something.
I’d Like My Guitar Amp to Run on Solar Power

- This isn’t directly related to music, but Climate Progress has a post up about the “holy grail” of clean energy: affordable energy storage for wind and solar power. Read that one together with this item from Physorg.com on how a solar-hydrogen economy could supply the world’s energy needs. It’s stories like these that keep me from thinking humankind is doomed.
- I’m going to check out blip.fm.
- Via Devotion, a clip of Oysterhead playing “Pseudo Suicide.” I think there are better Oysterhead songs, but this video is worth at least a look to see Trey playing a guitar with antlers on it.
